Environment
At Amani Mara, we endeavour to work with local communities to minimise the impact of tourism on the environment and improve the facilities and resources available. Our priorities in the near future is based on the observations we have made. This led to the creation of goals that we would like to achieve in order to support both the local community as well as the environment, wildlife and fauna.
According to UNEP Òassessments have unveiled MauÕs immense value. Together with other ecosystem services, itÕs rivers breathe life and vitality into the world famous Maasai Mara National Reserve.Ó
By improving the condition of the forest and the quality of water feeding the Mara River, there is a great possibility to increase the biodiversity found in the Great National Reserve. We would like to empower itÕs local residents to help restore some of the deforested and degraded areas as well as to focus on appropriate water and waste management. In order to achieve this, we plan to work with WWF to organize an Òadopt a villageÓ program in the Mau Catchments Area.
We are working closely with the WWF in our own Waste Water Management project, particularly the recycling of water, a resource which can easily be taken for granted, and, currently, is often mismanaged. Our septic tank systems are designed to clean and filter waste water which will eventually flow out into an artificial wetland system. This will then give life to its own ecosystem. At the same time the filtered water can also be used to irrigate the surrounding vegetation.
