Community

At Amani Mara, we endeavour to work with local communities to minimise the impact of tourism on the environment and improve the facilities and resources available. Our priorities in the near future is based on the observations we have made. This led to the creation of goals that we would like to achieve in order to support both the local community as well as the environment, wildlife and fauna.

We would like to provide water filters to each manyatta around our area to ensure clean drinking water which, as a result,will decrease the amount of ailments which are mostly contracted through the poor quality of water currently available for their domestic use.

A medical dispensary in the vicinity would provide greatly needed medical assistance for local communities. This could be achieved by partnering with a medical body to provide the necessary facilities.

In an effort to make the surrounding communities more independent, we propose that they use their local material (what is freely available to them i.e. dung, soil, ash,etc) to manufacture briquettes. Selling these products on to lodges and businesses will provide a constant and sustainable income which does not rely on tourism alone as there is demand for an alternative sustainable and eco-friendly source of fuel everywhere (as opposed to deforestation). This will make for a more eco-friendly source of fuel as it is produced in a more environmentally sustainable way.
